Common Misconceptions About Becoming a Scuba Diver

PADI-open-water-diver

Becoming a scuba diver is a long-term commitment to learning and practicing new skills. It takes time, effort, and dedication to become good at diving. However, there are many misconceptions about becoming a scuba diver. Learn about them in this blog.

Scuba Diving Is for Young People Only

This is far from the truth. Scuba diving has been made possible for people of all ages and fitness levels by the developments in diving technology, especially in the last 20 years. Many dive schools cater to older adults and children as well as adults. These schools teach you how to dive and advance your skills as a scuba diver. The only limitations are age (you have to be eight years or older). Many types of equipment are also available that make it easier for people to dive safely without worrying too much about different things.

You Have to Be Tall and Skinny to Fit Into a Wet Suit

You don’t even need to be thin—wetsuits come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s one that will fit you regardless of your build or height. They come in short and long varieties, too, so if you’re short or tall, there’s probably a wetsuit out there for you!

It’s Expensive and Takes a Lot of Money to Get Started

It will cost some money upfront if you want to go on vacation somewhere with a fantastic diving scene, such as Jordan. But if all you want is to learn how to dive so, you can do it on your own time, that’s not necessary at all! You can often do a “try dive” for less than $100 (possibly even less than $50). Most people discover they enjoyed the experience so much that they want to become a certified diver. The PADI Open Water Diver courses cost about $500 or $600, depending on where you get your training. But be sure to spend the money to train with a reputable dive center.
